The South African legal framework

Gambling in South Africa is governed by the National Gambling Act 2005 and nine provincial gambling boards. Casinos are capped at 40 national licences (37 operate). The WCGRB register lists around 65 licensed bookmakers; the National Lottery is regulated separately by the National Lotteries Commission (operator: Ithuba Holdings).

  • Casinos & betting shops — licensed by provincial boards.
  • Online betting — licensed at provincial level.
  • Interactive casino gambling — not licensed nationally; offshore sites fall outside SA regulation.

How we compile the catalogs

Listings are assembled from public sources: provincial licence registers, operator websites and industry references. Each listing links to its own profile page; outbound buttons route through /go.php, a plain 302 redirect with no affiliate IDs and no tracking. We do not accept paid placement.

Responsible gambling

  • National Responsible Gambling Programme: 0800 006 008 (toll-free, 24/7)
  • SMS helpline: text "HELP" to 076 675 0710

18+ everywhere. Licensed venues operate voluntary self-exclusion programmes.

Disclaimer. Independent reference publication. We do not operate gambling accounts, accept deposits or process wagers. Verify licence status with the relevant provincial board before playing.
